If you’re a home or business owner, you may have several questions and doubts on your mind when it comes to security solutions. These may pertain to coverage offered by various security products or services and the costs involved with installation and maintenance. To clear your confusion and arm you with the information you need to make the right decisions, Prep Security has answered some of the most frequently asked questions about security systems so that you have first-hand knowledge to ensure your home, office, and possessions are safe and secure at all times.

1. How many cameras do I need?
For a home video surveillance system, most people need between two and six security cameras, and this ensures almost complete coverage of a typical home. If it’s for a business, you may need anywhere from sixteen to sixty cameras, depending on the size of your property. The answer to this question will depend on your location, personal needs, and preferences.

2. Are my internet speeds sufficient?
5Mbps is sufficient for remote viewing of the lower resolution or sub-stream. For the best remote viewing experience, we recommend having an upload speed of at least 10Mbps which is a basic speed and lower than offered by most internet providers. Most security camera systems will work at basic internet speeds.

3. What are the costs of installing security systems?
This is a tricky question to answer as the cost of security systems depends significantly on your needs and preferences. Prices for a basic system can be as little as $250 and go up to $1000 to $2000 to install, with the average installation costing $686. You’ll also need to include in the cost of the basic equipment package, which consists of a control panel, sensors, and a siren. Costs of security systems also depend highly on labor rates and the type and model of system installed.
